Lap-Band
Although most patients can return to work within a week after having Lap-Band surgery in Decatur, it’s important for you to take it easy and let your body heal. You should get lots of rest, but also walk as much as you can to lessen your risk of getting a blood clot and kick-start your metabolism. However, you should avoid more strenuous exercise or other strenuous activities for at least four weeks.
When you first arrive home, you’ll be on a liquid diet for two weeks as the swelling in your stomach subsides and the healing process runs its course. From there, you can progress to semi-solid foods and purees for the next few weeks. Six weeks after surgery you can begin to eat solid foods, and will likely be able to eat much like you did before surgery until your band is filled. During the entire recovery process, it’s important to get plenty of water and stay hydrated, but as a Lap-Band patient you will not be able to take liquids with your meals.
After your surgery, you will start experiencing weight loss at the rate of anywhere from 1 to 3 pounds per week for the next 12 to 18 months. During this time, you will need to come in for routine “fills” to tighten the band as you lose weight and help you overcome weight-loss plateaus. You will also be required to attend periodic follow-up visits to ensure the success of your procedure.
